STP Motorsport looks to build on Thruxton success

Press Release Issued By STP Motorsport Press (April 29, 2008)

Building on the team's first podium at Thruxton STP Motorsport is looking forward to the different challenges posed by Oulton Park and is confident that the MV Agusta F4 312RR, along with rider Chris Burns, is equipped to meet them head on.

However, the team recognises that it still has to further develop the bike to make it even more competitive and Chris is aware that many more miles of testing are required to get him and the bike 100 per cent.

Warwick Nowland, Team Manager:
"I think this weekend will be a tough one, but then again aren't they all! With the weather forecast promising mixed conditions it is wonderful to know that we have a rider Chris' ability to go fast in the rain or dry.

"Having tested earlier this month at Oulton Park, to give Chris some track time with our number two bike, we will arrive this weekend with many settings already in place and with the advantage of Chris having the track fresh in his mind. This alone will make things run smoother right from the opening practice session. Unfortunately, we have not had time to develop the bike as we would have liked so, it is basically in Superstock trim. That said, I have tremendous faith in Chris, crew chief Paul Snell, technicians Roy Hood, Vince Morris and Dean Jones to find a setting, which will enable us to make up for any power disadvantage. The effort that these guys are putting in makes me proud and I am looking forward to Monday's races.

Chris Burns, Rider:
After testing earlier at Oulton Park, and the race at Thruxton, I took advantage of some track time at Donington Park this week to get myself back up to speed in time for the weekend and I am now eager to get the MV Agusta in Superbike trim so that we can really push the guys at the front. I know that I can get faster as a rider and with the extra power that will arrive soon we will then have a very competitive package. Coming off the success at Thruxton I am really looking forward to what lies ahead this season!

"Oulton Park poses different challenges for the bike compared to Thruxton. The nature of the circuit could show up our lack of horsepower. Coming off the slower corners we will struggle in acceleration and it may take more time to dial in our chassis to suit the tighter circuit. If we get it right, though, I know we can go into the race confident we can win".
