Youth Movement

Youth Movement

By Dirck Edge

When I realized that Dani Pedrosa was the oldest rider on the podium following the Qatar MotoGP last weekend, it struck me that Valentino Rossi's reign atop the world of motorcycle racing might truly be over, forever. Sure, this wasn't a Bridgestone track, but that didn't stop Casey Stoner from storming to another victory. Frankly, I think the argument that the Ducati is a better bike than the Yamaha has also been put to bed. After the performance of MotoGP rookies Jorge Lorenzo and James Toseland, I think we can forget about that angle as well.

Fourth place Andrea Dovizioso (Honda) is also a youngster. The finishing order ended up like this: Stoner (age 22), Lorenzo (20), Pedrosa (22) and Dovizioso (21). Has there ever been a podium this young in the history of the premier class? A top four this young? Email us if you know.
