Alex Criville (Honda) took his sixth win of the season, and extended his championship points lead over Kenny Roberts (Suzuki) to 66 points, at the Imola 500 GP on Sunday, September 5, 1999. Alex Barros (Honda) was second, with the locals cheering Max Biaggi (Yamaha) home in third place.
Early race leader Kenny Roberts (Suzuki) faded badly to sixth place.
In the 250 race, Loris Capirossi (Honda) decimated the field with second place more than eight seconds behind at the checkered flag. Second place went to Valentino Rossi (Aprilia), with the rider on pole, Olivier Jacque (Yamaha), coming home third.
