Kenny Roberts (Suzuki) was fastest in the first qualifying session for Sunday’s South African GP race. Injured Alex Criville (Honda) could only manage seventh best.

After crashing during the first lap last week in Australia, Anthony Gobert (MuZ) is back for another try, but could only manage 19th fastest on the slippery track.
