Aprilia Caponord 1200 Image Leaked before EICMA

Floating around on the Net is this image of the 2013 Aprilia Caponord 1200, which was previewed to Aprilia dealers some time ago. The Caponord, whose details should be available next week, will have a version of the big v-twin found in the Dorsoduro 1200 that MD has previously tested. We found this engine to pack huge power . . . only faulted by a somewhat abrupt throttle response. Full specifications, pricing and availability will have to wait until the official EICMA announcement next week.

I think the Suzuki V-Strom 650 sells at leaswt 10:1 over the 1000. You’d think other companies would take note and do likewise. Just imagine how cool and accessible this bike would be as a lighter 650, 20% cheaper.

This along with the Suzuki is the best styled of the “adventure” sport bikes yet but they’re all still trying too hard. Beaks (Ducati), Bill the cat headlights (BMW) and “Transformer face” (Aprilia). Why can’t they just make the bike the way functionality dictates?

..because most likely many people would find their styling boring. No doubt about it, all those styling licks you mentioned are polarizing which equates to each brand’s identity.

Yup, nice to see one of the euro companies’ design departments showing some restraint.

I still love the “Bill the Cat” headlights thing. Hilarious. “How utterly gross.”

They keep getting better, yet bigger.

    Nice update of the Capo.

So where’s the new 1200 Futura?

re: “So where’s the new 1200 Futura?”

you’re looking at it. “adventure” IS the new sport touring.

I like the looks too, it is much better looking than the Strada/Explorer/GS. I really liked my 02 Caponord that was 100% trouble free all the years I rode it. But, I couldn’t wait. I bought a KTM SMT for the much lower weight, top shelf suspension, ABS and and engine-transmission that is even better than my original Capo. If Aprilia addresses these issues, they should have a winner with this version. One problem it appears they did not correct is the radiator exhaust air looks like it still is directed at your knees, KTM wisely vents it much lower.
