In rainy, muddy, messy conditions, Frenchman Frédérick Bolley won the opening moto at the Greman Motocross Grand Prix on August 29, 1999 riding his factory Honda. Second in moto number one was his teammate, and defending World champion, Stefan Everts. David Vuillemin (Yamaha) was third, with American Ryan Hughes (Honda) fourth.
Everts won the second moto with Vuillemin second and Bolley third. German Pit Beirer (Kawasaki) came through for fourth place in the second moto.
Bolley stretched his lead to 19 points over Beirer for the championship.
