England’s MCN reports that Suzuki has tested its 2000 GSXR750 at the Hockenheim track in Germany with suprisingly good results. The new GSXR reportedly lapped the track virtually as fast as the European-spec Supersport 750s.
European Supersport rules allow blue-printing of the motor, as well as exhaust and suspension changes, and the bikes typically perform substantially better than stock bikes. The implication is that the stock 2000 GSXR750 performs substantially better and laps substantially faster than a stock 1999 bike. We’ll have to wait and see if the faster times are largely attributable to the substantial weight reduction, the claimed increase in horsepower, or the claimed handling improvements from chassis changes, or some combination of these. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
