Round Two of the World Supercross series visited Pasadena, California this evening. The series,
shortened to only three races with the cancellation of the Brazil round, had new riders running up
front in Pasadena.
Ezra Lusk (Honda) took the hole shot and never looked back. Lusk’s win was wire to wire, but it
wasn’t that easy. Kawasaki’s Larry Ward hounded him, particularly in the second half of the race.
Ward finished second.
Jeremy McGrath (Yamaha) finished third after battling with several riders, including Yamaha’s David
Vuillemin.
The Pasadena round featured a 125cc support class. The winner of the 125cc class was 16 year old
Travis Pastrana in his American debut for the factory Suzuki team. Pastrana began the race in second
place, and, after a lengthy battle, passed Suzuki’s David Pingree to take the victory. Also passing
Pingree was Yamaha’s Ernesto Fonseca.
Fonseca was the 125cc East Coast AMA Supercross champion last year, and he won several races
in Paris last week in the 125 class. Fonseca is fast. Impressively, although Fonseca closed to his rear
fender with several laps remaining, Pastrana held him off for the victory. Finishing behind Fonseca
in third place was early race leader David Pingree.
It’s late here in California, and we just arrived back from the race. We’ll update you with complete
results and points tomorrow.
