The rumored successor to the NT650 Hawk GT from Honda is getting more press in Europe. Expected in the model year 2001, it should be known as the Honda VTX800. The 800cc motor is expected to be based on either the Africa Twin 750 or the VTR 1000 Super Hawk.
It will be a “naked bike” like the original Hawk (i.e., no fairing), and utilize an aluminum frame (also like the original Hawk).
The original NT650 Hawk GT weighed almost exactly the same as the Suzuki SV650. It was very light at approximately 393 pounds with all fluids and an empty gas tank. The key question is whether the 800 can be just as light as the original Hawk, and handle just as sweetly. If so, it should be a great machine. We’ll keep you posted if we hear anything else.
