Button Auction Draws Large Participation, Both on Internet and In Person

MD attended the Jimmy Button benefit auction this evening at Chaparral Motorsports in San Bernadino, California. On
hand to view and bid on the extremely varied items donated by the industry for the auction were numerous industry representatives
and riders. Some of the riders seen at the event included last year’s East and West coast 125cc SX champions, Ernesto Fonseca
and Nathan Ramsey, as well as Stephane Roncada and even the legendary Malcolm Smith.

It always makes you feel good about the motorcycling community at times like this. It wasn’t just the supercross/motocross crowd, but
also roadracers supporting the auction with items donated by Ben Bostrom, Miguel DuHamel, Mat Mladin, and others. Everyone comes together
when a young rider is seriously injured.

Interestingly, bids taken over the internet were frequently the highest bids, despite efforts by a very professional auctioneer to stir
up the crowd. The entire event was handled well, with Chaparral Motorsports and it’s staff graciously attending to the needs of those who
came to support the injured Jimmy Button. Button was employed by Chaparral as Jeremy McGrath’s teammate during the 1998 season.
