A large contingent of the US motorcycle press corps gathered in Monterey, California this
evening at the request of Honda for the beginning of the press introduction of the US RC51
production model. This evening consisted of the introduction of various Honda personnel and
racing heroes (including Miguel DuHamel, Kurtis Roberts, Freddie Spencer, Bubba Shobert, and others), and then
a thorough technical description of the RC51.
MD has previously written about the RC51, and posted several pictures of the bike, in articles
dated September 9 1999, October 13 1999, and November 4 1999. We won’t rehash technical specifications
this evening.
The main point of the press intro is giving an impression of the bike from the rider’s perspective,
and we will be riding the bike all day tomorrow at Laguna Seca Raceway. Check back tomorrow for one
or more riding impressions, followed by a more thorough report on Friday.
