Kenny Roberts on Pole for Malaysian Grand Prix

Kenny Roberts (Suzuki) took pole position for tomorrow’s Malaysian 500 Grand Prix race. Roberts won his first Grand Prix here last year, and praised his bike set up after qualifying.

Honda’s Loris Capirossi (second fastest), and Yamaha’s Max Biaggi (third) and Carlos Checa (fourth) will fill out the front row of the grid tomorrow in the 500 class.

Last week’s surprise winner Garry McCoy (Yamaha) qualified sixth, while last year’s champion, Alex Criville (Honda), struggled to qualify eighth fastest.

In 250 qualifying, Tohru Ukawa placed his Honda in the top spot, with Daijiro Katoh (Honda), Ralph Waldmann (Aprilia) and Olivier Jacque (Yamaha) filling out the top four spots, and the front row on the grid.
