Vuillemin Battles McGrath to the Wire and Wins New Orleans Supercross

Last night, in New Orleans, Lousiana, David Vuillemin (Yamaha) and Jeremy McGrath (Yamaha) had a showdown, of sorts. Vuillemin and McGrath started the race neck-and-neck, with Vuillemin pulling away to a small lead that he held (with one exception) for the rest of the race. McGrath stayed close, and even passed Vuillemin at one point, but Vuillemin had the upper hand this night, riding fast and smooth.

Kevin Windham (Honda) and Ricky Carmichael (Kawasaki) had a battle of their own over third place, with Windham taking third and Carmichael fourth.

With two rounds left to go, McGrath has a twenty-five point lead over second place Vuillemin in the championship. Vuillemin has virtually no chance to overtake McGrath, absent a mechanical problem or a DNF on McGrath’s part.

In 125 action, Stephane Roncada (Yamaha) won his fourth race of the 125 East Coast Supercross series, with Honda’s Brock Sellards finishing second. Suzuki’s Travis Pastrana finished third.

In the 125 East Coast points race, Sellards and Rondaca are tied for first (with 150 points) with Pastrana just six points back. Next week is the final round of the East Coast 125 series, and it should be a barn burner.
