Just like he did in round one, Aprilia’s Troy Corser put together a steller lap during SuperPole to take top position for Sunday’s World Superbike race at Phillip Island. After finishing third in qualifying to Ducati’s Carl Fogarty and Honda’s Colin Edwards, Corser was quickest in SuperPole with Chili (Suzuki) second and Edwards third quickest. The SuperPole lap determines Sunday’s race grid positions.
Surprise of the day? Anthony Gobert was sixth fastest in qualifying on the largely untested Bimota — slipping to eleventh in SuperPole.
Ducati’s Carl Fogarty set the fastest lap time during qualifying, but had his usual let down during SuperPole, finishing sixth. His Ducati teammate, Ben Bostrom, qualified fifteenth and was thirteenth after SuperPole.
