Vuillemin Leaves $500,000.00 On The Table At Vegas; Pastrana Wins 125 Shootout

by Dirck Edge

After winning the first two races of the Vans Triple Crown of Supercross, Yamaha’s David Vuillemin had an off night in Vegas, failing to make the podium and leaving the $500,000.00 Vans prize unclaimed. Jeremy McGrath (Yamaha), who clinched his seventh Supercross Championship last week, won yet another race after battling closely with Honda’s Kevin Windham for the first twelve laps. Windham faded to third place behind Mike LaRocco (Honda). Vuillemin was fourth, with Kawasaki’s Ricky Carmichael fifth.

In the 125 East/West shootout, Suzuki’s Travis Pastrana won by a large margin over Yamaha’s Stephane Roncada (the East Coast champion this year), with Ernesto Fonseca (Yamaha) third. Fourth and fifth place went to Greg Schnell (Yamaha) and Brock Sellards (Honda), respectively.

The entire MD crew is in Las Vegas this evening, and we will post complete results and final points later today, as well as an extensive article on AMA roadracing at Sears Point.
