Do you remember that article in Motocross Action a few years ago where Bob Hannah called all of the current motocross/supercross racers (other than Jeremy McGrath) wimps? He said they didn’t train, and they didn’t care about winning. He said they were content to ride around and watch Jeremy win.
Kawasaki’s Ricky Carmichael and Suzuki’s Travis Pastrana were not on the radar screen when Hannah made those comments. These guys don’t ride for second place, and they clearly aren’t wimps.
Pastrana has re-injured his thumb, and, as he did at the beginning of the East Coast 125 Supercross series, he will be riding the outdoor series wearing a cast to protect his thumb. He’s no wimp.
Just a couple of years ago, Pastrana had a near career-ending injury when he landed short on a huge double jump at a freestyle event. He spent months in a wheelchair — undoubtedly with that same smile on his face and that same positive attitude. He came back from that one, obviously.
Carmichael rides like a man possessed outdoors. He wants every moto victory, and he’s angry at himself if he doesn’t get it. He’s no wimp, either.
What does Hannah have to say about these guys?
