We almost forgot that David Vuillemin (Yamaha) is fast outdoors — after his awesome rookie season in AMA 250 Supercross. Vuillemin reminded us yesterday, by taking the overall victory in round two of the AMA Outdoor National 250 Motocross Championship held in Sacramento, California. With consistent 2/2 scores in the motos, Vuillemin took the overall from Honda’s Kevin Windham (4/1) and Kawasaki’s Ricky Carmichael (1/4).
Carmichael won the opening moto in convincing style (3 for 3 motos at that point this year), and appeared to be in control, once again, early in the second moto. Carmichael appeared to tire, however, and faded to fourth place in moto number two.
Honda’s Kevin Windham rode very well in the second moto, perhaps regaining some of the confidence he has been lacking this year. If Windham gets his confidence back, look out!
In 125 action, Honda’s Steve Lamson took the overall victory, and the series points lead, with 3/1 finishes. Kawasaki’s Tallon Vohland finished 4/4 for second overall, with Yamaha’s Stephane Roncada finishing 1/13 for third.
Suzuki’s Travis Pastrana rode well in the second moto for second place — despite wearing a cast on his right hand and wrist to protect a re-broken thumb (amazing). Pastrana had a crash-filled moto number one — a race he failed to finish.
Carmichael (250) and Lamson (125) are the championship series’ leaders heading into round three.
