Ducati’s John Kocinski was quickest during qualifying today for tomorrow’s AMA Superbike final at Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. You may recall that John Kocinski was drafted well into the season by the Vance & Hines Ducati team to replace Troy Bayliss (himself drafted by the World Superbike Ducati team to replace Carl Fogarty). Kocinski, a multi-time World Champion, is a quick study, however, as he showed by taking the fastest lap during qualifying today.
Filling out the front row with Kocinski will be Yamaha’s Tommy Hayden (his highest qualifying position ever on a superbike), Suzuki’s Mat Mladin and Aaron Yates.
- John Kocinski (#46 - Duin the dirt), yet he stayed close enough to pass Hayden twice during the latter stages of the race.
Finishing third was Mladin's teammate Aaron Yates, with Kawasaki's Eric Bostrom fourth.
