The just-completed Gravity Games in Providence, Rhode Island witnessed a first in freestyle motocross — a back flip performed by Carey Hart. Although Hart’s scores kept him off the podium, his single trick defined the entire event for many fans. The often-discussed, but considered-too-dangerous back flip, was pulled out by Hart during the second round of the final competition.
The competition itself was won by Brian Deegan over second place Mike Metzger.
Like it or not, freestyle motocross is hugely popular among the generation X extreme-sports fanatics, and is destined to become even more so. Deegan and Metzger are two of its founding fathers.
