I know this is a motorcycle e-zine, but, occasionally, I receive information about new scooters, as well. Scooters, if you haven’t noticed, have become wildly popular in Europe, and their popularity is growing quickly in the United States. Scooters are considered “cool”, and enjoyable by less skilled riders (featuring automatic clutches, and other “beginner bike” features, quite frequently).
The thing that is happening to scooters, however, is that they are getting bigger engines, bigger wheels, stiffer frames, disc brakes, etc. Sound familiar? This is kind of like the evolution of the motorcycle. This a picture of the just-introduced Yamaha XP500 TMax. It features a 500cc twin cylinder, liquid cooled engine, along with lots of other “sophisticated motorcycle technology” according to Yamaha.
The merger of these two enthusiast groups can only be good for motorcycling.
