Honda’s Colin Edwards won both races at the World Superbike Championship round in Germany yesterday. He also established a 52-point lead – enough to clinch the championship with just one round remaining. With the appeal of Yamaha’s Noriyuki Haga, and the loss of his Kyalami points, still up in the air, however, Edwards championship remains unofficial at this time. Indeed, the season may end with Haga’s appeal undecided, and the championship hanging in the balance.
Haga hurt his chances with a mediocre day, finishing ninth and fifth in the two races, respectively. Ducati’s Troy Bayliss was on the podium both times, finishing third and second, while Kawasaki teammates Gregorio Lavilla (second in race one) and Akira Yanagawa (third in race two) were other top finishers.
