On Thursday, August 23, 2001, American Honda issued a press release announcing release of the 2002 ST1100 and ST1100ABS II. Apparently, the 2002 ST1100 models are unchanged, and are available in Candy Dark Red at U.S. MSRPs of $11,899 and $14,399, respectively.
While much of the motorcycling world has been anticipating the debut of an ST1100 replacement in September, the announcement of the re-release of the existing model is puzzling. We would have expected Honda to announce a carry-over model several months ago, and not just prior to the September debut of several, all-new models. Perhaps, there is an ST1100 replacement about to debut, but it will be an early-release 2003 model available at dealers sometime in the Spring of 2002. In any event, we will know what direction Honda is going with this model in a few weeks.
