With ten World titles to its credit in the 1950s and 1960s, Mondial is a glorious, old Italian marque. Recently re-launched, it introduced a production version of its first new model, the Piega 1000 at Milan. With 136 crank horsepower and 168 kilos of weight (370 pounds dry — incredibly light for a 1000cc twin), the Piega is a tasty machine. The production machine used to homologate the superbike racer (also shown in this article) features materials like titanium and carbon fiber to achieve this light weight.
Although featuring the Honda RC51 engine, several changes have been made by Mondial, including variable fuel-injection (two of the four injectors per cylinder work only above 8000 rpm). The ignition is also exclusive to Mondial.
More details as they emerge.
