Ricky Carmichael’s last-minute decision to race his new Honda CR250 at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas this weekend was the right one. Carmichael showed up and smoked the competition in both main events Friday and Saturday nights, to capture his second U.S. Open crown in a row, and the $100,000.00 first prize.
The much-anticipated showdown with Jeremy McGrath (Yamaha) didn’t quite come off as planned. McGrath had problems all weekend with gate choice and crashes — finishing fourth on Friday evening and second on Saturday. McGrath did look very fast, however, and came from near last place to second on Saturday night.
