Who Is Chad Reed, And Why Is He So Fast?

Lately, we have become used to fast motocross/supercross riders coming out of the United States (Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael, Ezra Lusk, Kevin Windham, blah, blah, blah) or France (Sebastien Tortelli, David Vuillemin, Michael Pichon, blah, blah, blah). Australia has produced some mid-pack AMA riders, but no real standouts. Enter Chad Reed.

When Reed dominated American Travis Pastrana last weekend at a supercross in Australia (Pastrana aboard his factory Suzuki RM250, and Reed aboard his Kawasaki KX250), winning two straight main events over the American phenom, it underscored a steady march by Reed toward stardom that includes a second place finish in this year’s 250 Outdoor Motocross World championship (Suzuki’s Michael Pichon won that series).

Next year, Reed will contest the AMA Supercross Series – riding a few 250cc events before taking on the 125cc East Coast series. He will be aboard a Yamaha prepared by Yamaha of Troy. This kid is certainly one to watch.
