Carl Fogarty has announced the Foggy Racing Team — backed by Malaysian money and featuring a Sauber-developed three-cylinder engine. Foggy Racing will campaign the WSB series next year, beginning with round five at Monza.
Currently, as far as MD can tell, there is no WSB spec engine — just the 990cc version developed by Sauber for MotoGP. Moreover, in order to campaign WSB, Foggy Racing is committed to delivering no less than 150 street legal bikes (for homologation) by the end of 2003.
Even with substantial financial backing from Malaysian industry including, specifically, Petronas (the oil giant) this all seems a bit ambitious. Nevertheless, the financial incentives for Carl Fogarty must have been significant given his decision to leave Ducati for this project.
We will keep you informed as we learn more about Foggy Racing and the production bikes associated with it.
