Round three of the AMA Supercross series visited Anaheim Stadium this evening. In unusually cold weather for Southern California, Honda’s Mike LaRocco emerged victorious after an exciting 250cc main event. Early leader Travis Pastrana (Suzuki) crashed hard midway through the main event and remounted to finish third — behind last week’s winner, David Vuillemin (Yamaha). Vuillemin continues with the series points’ lead, with LaRocco in second.
The two pre-series favorites, Ricky Carmichael and Jeremy McGrath, continued to perform below expectations. Carmichael finished fourth, following a last-lap crash by teammate Nathan Ramsey that allowed Carmichael to take the first spot outside the podium. Yamaha’s Jeremy McGrath continues his string of poor performances this evening with a ninth place finish.
KTM’s David Pingree won the 125cc main event — barely holding off an amazing charge through the pack by Kawasaki’s James Stewart. Stewart crashed in the first turn, and started last, before passing everyone in the field except Pingree. The 125 points’ leader is Stewart.
Round four of the series will be in Phoenix next Saturday night.
