Suzuki announced today that Team Sobe Suzuki factory rider Kevin Windham will miss this Saturday night’s Indianapolis Supercross race (Round 6 of the AMA Supercross series) due to a “blow to his head” during last week’s 250 Main event at Anaheim, California. Suzuki says that Windham appears uninjured.
We applaud Suzuki for taking the conservative, recommended approach to dealing with this situation. We have written about head injuries in motocross before, and there is clearly a need for greater awareness on the part of teams and riders of recommended precautions following head injuries (both serious and minor). Having Windham sit out a week following the Anaheim incident seems consistent with recommended medical practice and practice in many other contact sports.
