The AMA Supercross 250 main event in Atlanta was exciting — at least until Suzuki’s Travis Pastrana pulled off the track while near the lead roughly half way into the race. Apparently, Pastrana succumbed to flu symptoms he had been suffering from this week when he let Ricky Carmichael (Honda) go while closely following him in second. Carmichael then cruised to a comfortable victory over David Vuillemin (Yamaha) and, with his first podium this year, Jeremy McGrath (Yamaha). Carmichael’s win takes another three points out of Vuillemin’s series lead.
Yamaha’s Chad Reed continued to dominate the East Coast series. With his victory tonight, Reed has now won every East Coast 125 race this year. Reed had to overtake Kawasaki’s Mike Brown late in the race. Brown finished second.
