MD received the following press release today from Suzuki concerning Travis Pastrana’s health and race plans.
BREA, Calif. (April 19, 2002) – American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) today announced that Team SoBe Suzuki factory rider Travis Pastrana will not compete in the remaining 2002 AMA EA Sports U.S. Supercross Series events in Dallas, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.
Despite a tonsillectomy in April, Travis continues to suffer from a sinus condition that has prevented him from training or competing at full intensity. While the procedure was successful, his recovery has taken longer than expected.
“We’d always rather err on the side of caution,” said Mel Harris, vice president of ASMC’s motorcycle/ATV division. “Since he hasn’t yet fully recovered – and has missed significant practice and training time – we thought it was in his best interests to concentrate our collective efforts on the 2002 motocross season starting next month.”
