Is BMW going through the MotoGP paddock seeking mechanics and other personnel for a 2003 MotoGP team? That’s the word from some MotoGP team personnel. Since a three-cylinder, 990cc machine could be based closely on three cylinders from a BMW Formula 1 V-10 engine, an in-line three-cylinder is the logical lay-out for a BMW MotoGP engine. 250 horsepower from that three cylinder engine is easily achievable, given the application of engine technology similar to that found in BMW’s F1 engine.
The real question mark is BMW’s ability to get up to speed with a race bike chassis — given its lack of recent experience in motorcycle roadracing.
