If you have been reading MD recently, you know that we had a chance to sample Kawasaki’s outstanding new two-stroke motocrossers, the 2003 KX125 and 250. These bikes, despite their displacement differences, share a common chassis. Indeed, the frame is identical in each bike, with the exception of the engine cradle.
That same engine cradle could easily hold a new four-stroke engine displacing 450cc (or 250cc). With Kawasaki’s new focus on shared components on its two-stroke motocrossers, expect Kawasaki to introduce at least one new four-stroke that shares the same basic chassis as the totally new 2003 two-stroke KXs. When will that happen? No one is talking, obviously, but our best guess would be the 2004 model year (introduced, perhaps, next summer). With Kawasaki’s renowned ability to produce four-stroke horsepower, and this new superb KX chassis, it should be quite a bike.
