With Honda choosing to test its new-generation MotoGP bike in private, the remaining teams spent the last three days at Jerez, Spain. The IRTA test at Jerez that has just concluded is traditionally the first opportunity to compare the teams with one another in a combined test.
The resutls show signs of parity among the Yamaha, Aprilia and Ducati teams, while Suzuki and Kawasaki lag behind, a bit. Indeed, Kawasaki’s fastest rider, Garry McCoy, was more than two and one-half seconds off the time set by Yamaha’s Alex Barros.
Although Kawasaki seems to be getting comfortable with chassis settings and engine performance, they are one of the few teams using Dunlop tires in MotoGP, and the Michelins are probably just better at this point.
