We don’t usually report qualifying results, but the Daytona 200 is the biggest race of the year here in the United States, and a battle is shaping up between factory Honda, with Ben Bostrom, Miguel DuHamel and Kurtis Roberts (who actually rides for the Erion Honda team on a full factory superbike), on the one hand, and Yoshimura Suzuki, with three-time champion Mat Mladin, Aaron Yates and young Ben Spies, on the other. The Yoshimura riders are aboard the newly-legal GSX-R1000 superbikes, while the Honda riders are aboard, essentially, the machine Colin Edwards rode to the WSB championship last year.
During qualifying for the Daytona 200 front row today, these two teams took all four positions, with Bostrom on pole, Roberts second quickest and teammates Mladin and Yates third and fourth quickest, respectively.
This Sunday’s race could be one of the best ever. As always, luck will play its part, but the winner will likely come from the Honda or Suzuki team.
