Less than two years after the death of Joey Dunlop, British racing fans, and motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide, received another jolt with the death of two-time 500 GP champion (1976 and 1977) Barry Sheene, yesterday.
At one point during his GP career, Sheene was a principal rival of Kenny Roberts, Sr.
Sheene had been battling cancer of the oesophagus and upper stomach for several months. He was 52 years old, and is survived by a wife and two children.
