When Kevin Windham broke his femur last year while riding for Team Suzuki, he seemed to fall off the face of the earth. Understandably, he needed time to heal, but he needed additional time, as well.
Windham, who is the most naturally talented motocross rider ever, in the opinion of some, was burned out. No more racing for the forseeable future.
Well, it seems that Windham eventually did heal physically, and he healed mentally, as well. He bought himself a Honda CRF450R, and began to play ride and race locally. In other words, he started to treat riding as a means of enjoyment, rather than as a job. Guess what? Kevin wants to race again. As reported by several other publications, Windham will race a Factory Connection-backed Honda CRF450R in the Outdoor Nationals beginning in May at Glen Helen. Motocross Action is reporting that Kevin will have a factory Honda just like the one waiting for Nathan Ramsey.
If our memory serves us, Windham was the last guy to beat Ricky Carmichael in an outdoor motocross race (in 2001 — Ricky was perfect in 2002). We hope Windham is serious this year . . . serious about having fun and riding up to his enormous potential. Welcome back.
