Honda MotoGP rider Daijiro Kato has lost his battle to recover from the injuries he sustained in a crash at the Suzuka circuit on April 6, 2003. He is survived by his wife and two young children.
He leaves us as the brightest Japanese star in MotoGP. The diminutive, polite Kato will perhaps best be remembered for his 2001 250 GP championship — a season in which he set a new 250 record for the most wins (11). His presence on the race track will be sorely missed by fellow riders and fans, alike.
