As poetic justice would have it, Daijiro Kato’s teammate Sete Gibernau (Honda) won the South African MotoGP race earlier today ahead of Valentino Rossi (Honda) and Max Biaggi (Honda). Ducati’s Troy Bayliss led the first third of the race before dropping back to fourth. A crash on the opening lap prevented Colin Edwards (Aprilia) from finishing the race. Edwards lost control of his Aprilia at the start of the race and veered into fellow American John Hopkins (Suzuki). Edwards fell and slid off the track injuring his ankle, but avoiding any broken bones. Hopkins stayed upright and finished the race in 13th place.
