Let’s start with the biggest news of the day — Ricky Carmichael lost a moto. After more than a year of perfection, Honda’s Ricky Carmichael was beaten in the first moto today at Hangtown by Kevin Windham (also on a Honda — although Windham rides a four-stroke CRF450R). Windham was followed home in the first moto by Carmichael, with Tim Ferry (Yamaha) third. In the second moto, Windham had a good start, but crashed, ultimately finishing in sixth position, while Carmichael won the second moto (and the overall on the day), with Chad Reed (Yamaha) second and Tim Ferry third. Carmichael leads the championship series.
In the 125 class, KTM’s Ryan Hughes won both motos, while the Kawasaki’s of Mike Brown and Eric Sorby swapped second and third place in the two motos. By finishing ahead of Brown in the second moto, Sorby took second overall on the day, with Brown third. Brown maintains a slim lead over Hughes in the 125 championship points race.
