Just when you thought that the Suzuki Hayabusa and Kawasaki ZX-12R were in a class of their own, rumors surface of direct competitors for these bikes coming from both Honda and Triumph.
It is rumored that Honda will replace the CBR1100XX with a 1200cc version, employing the VTEC system found on the current Interceptor. Basically, this VTEC system employs two valves per cylinder before a certain rpm level, and then kicks in an extra two valves per cylinder (intake and exhaust, of course) after that rpm level. The point is an increase in the powerband, meaning a boost in low end and top end (the best of both worlds).
Triumph has long been rumored to be preparing a replacement for the Trophy 1200 sport tourer (which has been around, largely unchanged, since 1996). That bike may see the light of day in September of this year, and it is expected to displace close to 1300cc. Triumph may also be putting this engine in a sportier bike aimed at the Hayabusa and ZX-12R. We will see.
