After winning the 2000 event, the United States failed to enter both the 2001 and 2002 Motocross des Nations events. The 2001 event followed on the heels of the terrorist attacks in New York, and the 2002 event was initially cancelled, and then relocated from the United States to Europe.
For 2003, the event will be held on October 5 in Zolder, Belgium, and the United States will be represented by Ricky Carmichael (Honda), Tim Ferry (Yamaha) and Ryan Hughes (KTM). Five-time World champ Roger DeCoster will again manage Team USA.
