As we take another look at the fascinating Motocross GP series unfolding in Europe this year, Yamaha’s Stefan Everts wins his sixth Motocross GP race today at Lierop, Holland, and stretches his points lead in the championship series. Early points leader Mickael Pichon (on a 250cc two-stroke Suzuki) falls to 12 points behind Everts, after finishing sixth today. The KTM 450cc four-stroke of Joel Smets, with a second place finish today, sits just ten points behind Everts in the championship series.
Everts also had his fourth double victory today, winning both the Motocross GP and the 125cc Motocross GP races at Lierop.
There are four rounds left in the World motocross championships, and the four-stroke 450 machines of Everts and Smets have clearly had an advantage over the last several rounds versus the 250cc two-stroke machines, including the Suzuki of two-time World champion Pichon.
