The test conducted by AMA Pro Racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway earlier this week indicates motorcycles may soon be roaring around the road course developed by IMS for Formula 1 automobile racing.
IMS is both historic in the world of racing and majestic in terms of its size and visual presence. It is easy to imagine an American MotoGP event hosted at IMS, along with national and world superbike events.
After just a few years hosting Formula 1, the Indy race is one of the drivers’ favorites, and one of the most prestigious races of the year.
If the same thing were to happen with MotoGP, it could help boost U.S. fan interest in motorcycle roadracing. Traditionally, motorcycle roadracing has been far less popular in the United States than in many parts of Europe. Let’s hope the bikes begin to roar at Indy!
