Max Biaggi (Honda) capitalized on his pole position by taking victory at the Motegi MotoGP race today, ahead of current champion and points leader Valentino Rossi (Honda). On the final lap, Makoto Tamada (Honda) made an aggressive pass on Sete Gibernau (Honda), sending Gibernau into the gravel. Ultimately, the FIM disqualified Tamada, and this allowed Nicky Hayden (Honda) to take his first podium with a third place. Gibernau finished fourth following the disqualification of Tamada.
