Honda Walks a Fine Line in MotoGP

Every manufacturer likes to win. There is nothing wrong with that, and it would be wrong if they didn’t. The problem is that too much dominance can be just as bad as losing . . . it can make everyone pull for the underdogs.

Honda’s dominance of MotoGP, lately, makes the series a bit less interesting. Moreover, it threatens to make Honda appear to be the “400 pound gorilla” — not the best image, for sure.

A recent quote from the HRC boss indicates Honda is aware of this, and welcomed a strong challenge from Ducati. Honda “needs a rival”, according to the HRC big wig (who was referring to Ducati, at the time).

While Honda has plenty of rivals, it keeps coming out on top in the rivalry. With a single exception this year (courtesy of Ducati), it has been Honda at the top of the podium non-stop.

Let’s hope things are more competitive next year.
