As the world of superbike racing continues to evolve in ever stranger directions, the factory Ducati superbike effort in the United States for 2004 may surpass the effort in the WSB series. The reasons? A Ducati championship in WSB during the 2004 series is a virtual certainty. They have the riders and the machinery, and very little competition.

Ducati is raising its profile in the United States, and it is in the United States that Ducati can race factory Honda for the AMA Superbike title. Working through the Ducati Austin team, with freshly signed Eric Bostrom as its star rider, Ducati will supply the latest and greatest 999 factory superbikes in its effort to capture the AMA title in 2004. With twin cylinder machines receiving significant advantages in AMA Superbike rules governing the 2004 series, Ducati would be justifiably confident in its chances to take the championship. Eric Bostrom has the talent, for sure, although it may take some time to get used to a twin. The 999 is a very effective superbike, and Ducati knows how to win.
Ducati, of course, will have far more bikes competing in WSB than in the AMA series, but the AMA presents the real challenge that excites Ducati in 2004.
