Although the competition was a lot thinner at the Arnhem World Supercross GP last weekend than it will be in Anaheim in a couple of weeks, Honda’s Ernesto Fonseca was nevertheless impressive. Although Fonseca has been a supercross champion at the 125cc level, Arnhem was his first major 250cc supercross win.
Fonseca is a veteran now. He has been around long enough that people no longer talk about his potential as a rider. If he has what it takes to be a champion at the 250cc level, this is the year to prove it.
With his legendary teammate Ricky Carmichael on the sidelines, Fonseca will get plenty of attention in the Honda pits. He could respond with an extraordinary effort (as he did in Arnhem), or crumble under the added pressure.
