Two years ago, Honda’s Ricky Carmichael had a perfect AMA 250cc Outdoor Motocross series, winning 24 of 24 motos. This was the first perfect AMA Motocross season in history, but Carmichael is on track to do it again this year.
After 5 rounds this year, Carmichael is a perfect 10 for 10 motos going into Round 6 at Unadilla, New York tomorrow. Each round thus far has been dry (or no more than damp). Unadilla, on the other hand, has received so much rain in the last 2 days that all practice sessions were cancelled today.
Tomorrow’s race will go forward despite weather and track conditions. Unadilla’s soil is a real mud bog when wet, and it looks like it will be very wet for tomorrow’s race.
Anything can happen in a muddy motocross race (and it usually does). Favorites frequently DNF, and relative unknowns frequently win or podium. It can be a free for all. Ricky Carmichael will need plenty of luck to continue his winning streak tomorrow.
