Time spent practicing in Travis Pastrana’s back yard and making use of his foam pit paid off tonight for freestyler Chuck Carothers, as he won X-Games MotoX Best Trick Gold with the first “body varial” ever performed in freestyle competition. Chuck’s body varial was a crazy stunt where he let go of the motorcycle completely in mid-air and turned his entire body in a 360 degree rotation above the bike and grabbed back on to land.
Nate Adams placed second, with two huge, clean 360s. Third place went to Travis Pastrana for a perfectly executed back flip indian air seat grab.
The Metal Mulisha boys looked strong, as well, particularly Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg. Twich was the first rider of the night and he came out of the box with a clean back flip, nack nack heel clicker — he looked extremely comfortable while performing the double-variation back flip. Mulisha front man Brian Deegan (last year’s Gold medal winner) pulled two Mulisha twists despite not appearing fully recovered from the serious injuries he suffered at Winter X-Games last year.
