The first two rounds of the AMA Supermoto championship were held this Saturday and Sunday in Copper Mountain, Colorado. A consistent Jeff Ward (Honda) has the points lead, with a second place finish in the opening round on Saturday, and a victory in round two on Sunday. Jurgen Kunzel walks away with second place points for the weekend (finishing 3rd in both rounds on his KTM), while Alexandre Thiebault is third in the championship (finishing fourth in round one and second during Sunday’s round two on his Honda).
Round one was won by Ward’s teammate Doug Henry, who was leading round two until mechanical problems forced him to retire from the race. Henry sits in seventh place in the championship after the first two rounds.
